October 31, 2001 (MINNEAPOLIS, MN; ST. LOUIS, MO; OAK HARBOR, WA) -- Augsburg Fortress Publishers (www.augsburgfortress.org) and Concordia Publishing House (www.cph.org) have chosen Libronix Corporation (www.libronix.com) as the technology platform provider for an historic joint venture-the publication of the 55-volume American Edition of Luther's Works on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is scheduled for release mid-November 2001.
The 55-volume set of Luther's Works, a monumental translation project published jointly in print by Fortress Press and Concordia Publishing House in 1957, is singular in its value to church historians, Luther scholars, and Christians. The first thirty volumes contain Luther's expositions of various biblical books, while remaining volumes include his Reformation writings and occasional pieces. The final volume of the set contains an index of quotations, proper names, and topics, and a list of corrections and changes. The CD-ROM will also contain a glossary of many of the technical terms that recur in Luther's works and links to every biblical reference.
Rev. Ken Wagener, Senior Editor of Professional Books at Concordia, commented, "We have been very pleased to partner with Libronix on a number of smaller projects in the past few years. This monumental project will certainly be a landmark for years to come. The fact that the Works of Luther will integrate seamlessly with our previous products makes it even more useful." Roy A. Harrisville, III, General Manager of Fortress Press, commented: "Nearly 45 years after the publication of the American Edition of Luther's Works in print, we are once again bringing these historic documents into a new, more accessible medium. We are thrilled at the prospect of making this important work more convenient and affordable for a new generation of pastors, scholars, and lay people."
The Luther's Works CD-ROM will be one of the first products built on the new Libronix Digital Library System (LDLS) platform. The CD will be compatible with all new LDLS products as well as all products previously released on the Logos Library System platform.
